As a toddler mom who’s currently pregnant and welcoming her second baby very soon, Natalie has truly tried it all. These are the products she comes back to again and again — the ones that are clean, considered, and actually work in real life.

This is the kind of advice that usually lives deep in group texts and Mom circles — the recommendations friends are always asking for, passed along consistently because they’re just that good.

Our hope is that this guide saves you hours of research and second-guessing, so you can put that time and energy where it matters most: caring for yourself and your baby. 🤍

Prenatal Vitamins & Care

• Metagenics or Needed prenatal vitamins – Most single-pill prenatal vitamins don’t provide everything you need (or enough of it) to replenish your own vitamins and minerals when pregnant and/or breastfeeding. These ones provide optimal nutrition for mamas.

  • Tip: Needed powder form is great for nausea because you can blend it into a smoothie or warm drink (depending what triggers not feeling well) and it’s easier to digest than a bunch of pills.

  • Tip: Keep taking your prenatals the whole time you’re breastfeeding and if/when your hair starts falling out postpartum!

• MAGNESIUM – I am convinced that magnesium solves many of my problems (and studies have proven some of it too).

  • For better sleep and quelled anxiety I take Pure Encapsulations Magnesium Glycinate every night before bed (and have gotten my husband to start taking it too!). I also use the Ancient Minerals Magnesium Soak for (not-too-hot) baths before bed and their Magnesium Oil sprayed on the bottoms of my feet — both of which help me sleep like a baby (see what I did there?).

  • To stay regular, you can’t go wrong with Calm Magnesium Citrate, Unflavored. This is especially important postpartum to help prevent hemorrhoids and keep things gentle on the most sensitive parts of your body as it heals.

• The Fresh Test Natural Glucose Beverage – The glucose test is an unpleasant but necessary part of pregnancy, and this easy-to-order powder is a GREAT alternative to the dye-filled liquid they give you at most labs and doctors offices. It tastes like really sweet lemonade and, while still filled with sugar (as is necessary for the test), it has just 3 simple ingredients and no harmful chemicals or unnecessary additives.

• Organic Raspberry Leaf Tea – I was told to start drinking this when I was pregnant the first time around and I’ve never stopped. It supports uterine health – whether pregnant or not – easing cramps, strengthening your uterus in preparation for birth, and helping it to heal after birth.

Skin

• Summer Fridays Belly Balm – I’ve recommended this one before, but it really is the best clean, unscented way to moisturize your belly and entire body. It’s a balm that turns into a non-greasy oil with the warmth of your hands and nourishes your skin as it stretches to accommodate a growing baby.

• C & The Moon Malibu Made Glow Oil – Carson Meyer first gifted this to me when I became a member of her Growing Together Circle and I have never turned back. Made with organic oils and food-grade vanilla, I use it when I want to smell extra yummy after a shower.

• Earth Mama Belly Oil – This oil is a little lighter than the belly balm and glow oil above, smells amazing, and keeps your body hydrated as your skin stretches.

To Wear While Pregnant

I’m all about buying non-maternity items that make me feel like myself while pregnant and postpartum, and that I can still wear once my body returns to its pre-pregnancy size. Here are some of my go-tos:

• The String Bikini from Iris – As soon as that belly starts growing, this shape is by far the comfiest and most flattering. It sits below the belly in the front while providing some coverage in the back, and the string sides make it both comfortable and a little sexy! I had a group of mamas from the Growing Together community recommend this shape when I was pregnant pre-Iris, and it’s a big reason why we included it in our launch (thank you, mamas!).

• Donni Baby Rib Scallop Pant – These will get you all the way through pregnancy and postpartum. They are so comfy, sit higher when your belly is smaller and lower when your belly is bigger, and look great with a t-shirt, sweater, or button-up. I wear my jet pair constantly, but also have espresso and love the navy. I find that the darker colors look less lounge-y, and I wear my true size in these throughout all body changes.

• Doen dresses – One of the trickiest things for me dressing my pregnant and postpartum body has been fluctuating boobs, and the Ischia Dress, Bijou Dress, and Kiara Dress from Doen have all made me feel good on every occasion. I’ve dressed them up for showers and parties and down for casual meals and outings. AND I’ve been able to wear my true size, so I haven’t had to pack them away like other maternity clothing.

Postpartum

• Rael Organic Cotton Cover Period Underwear – If you haven’t had a baby yet, don’t be scared by this one. A lot of things happen after giving birth, and period-like bleeding for a few weeks is one of them as your uterus cleanses itself to return back to a pre-pregnancy state. I found wearing period underwear during this time much more comfortable than wearing pads – they are absorbent, protect from leaks, and don’t slip around.

• The Brief from Iris – I plan to stock up on this style (even more than I already have) in preparation for giving birth to Baby #2. The shape is supportive, flattering, and provides coverage – all of which make it comfortable during postpartum months. I’ve had a few very good friends who had babies close to our launch confirm!

• Earth Mama Organics Herbal Sitz Bath – Sitz baths help with postpartum healing in many ways, and because their purpose is to heal your most personal, sensitive areas, it is critical that they contain non-toxic, clean ingredients.

Breastfeeding

• Earth Mama Nipple Butter – This really helped the sensitive skin on my nipples heal as I adjusted to breastfeeding. It keeps your skin moisturized and is safe for babies to put in their mouths (unlike many other nipple products that contain strong fragrances, parabens, drying alcohols, petroleum, menthol/camphor, and potentially harmful preservatives).

• Organic Sunflower Lecithin – This saved me from clogged ducts while breastfeeding! I’ve also heard that it helps with milk supply and while I always had a plentiful supply, I can’t say whether or not it was due to the sunflower lecithin. I took 2 every day for the first several months of breastfeeding, then switched to taking it only when I started to feel a clog.

• Breastfeeding pillows/support – My Brest Friend was SO helpful and supportive when I was first getting the hang of breastfeeding and before Lilia had any strength and control over her own neck and head. As she got bigger and stronger, I switched to the Snuggle Me Organic Feeding Support because it was a bit easier to move around the house and took up less space.

As a mom to an 18-month-old, with another little one on the way, Natalie has truly put these products to the test. Just like everything we share, these recommendations are items she reaches for again and again in real life.

Lilia — our resident baby and toughest critic — has also given her stamp of approval, so you can feel confident knowing that every pick on this list is not only non-toxic, but the best on the market when it comes to effectiveness, design, and ease of use.

Just like Iris, these products are thoughtfully chosen, endlessly functional, and genuinely protective. 💛

Becoming a mom changed everything — especially how I thought about what touched my baby’s skin and filled our home. I found myself reading labels more closely, asking better questions, and prioritizing products that felt truly safe, not just marketed as such.

But, I also didn’t want to sacrifice beauty or function. I wanted things that were thoughtfully designed, practical for real life, and still felt nice enough to use every day and have laying around the house — pieces that worked hard, looked good, and aligned with the care I was pouring into my baby.

That balance — non-toxic, intentional, and aesthetically beautiful — became my north star. I learned that choosing healthier options didn’t have to mean settling for less. Instead, it could mean choosing better options: trustworthy materials and ingredients, functional designs that make life easier, and details that fit our style and taste.

Strollers & Carriers

• Uppababy Cruz or Vista stroller with bassinet attachment for newborns – Uppababy avoids flame retardants, PFAS, BPA, Phthalates, and formaldehyde, using fabrics like wool to meet safety standards without harmful treatments. We’ve used the Cruz through all stages for Lilia and will go right back to using the bassinet for Baby #2!

• Nuna TRVL stroller – We got this when Lilia got a bit older. It’s SO lightweight and folds down easily, making it perfect for travel (or anything, really) as soon as a baby can sit up in a stroller without too much support.

• Nuna car seats – The PIPA for infants and RAVA for toddlers are flame-retardant-free, easy to get baby in and out of, and come in beautiful neutral colors.

• Artipoppe carrier – Although not always 100% organic, they use natural, breathable fabrics and this is the best we’ve found in terms of checking all the boxes for material, style, and comfort. We have the classic denim, but also love the spirit in linen. If we lived somewhere colder I would 100% be ordering the shearling insert for extra coziness on walks.

Diapers & Changing

• Coterie diapers and wipes – We’ve had a subscription for these since day 1 and love them for their clean ingredients, leak protection, and lack of irritation to Lilia’s very sensitive skin. (Hack: use the new flush wipes for grown ups in the house.)

• Coterie swim diapers – Lilia LOVES to swim and these pull-on diapers are effective and easy to change. We’ve never had a pool leak!

• Naturepedic organic changing pad – Avoiding harmful chemicals and questionable waterproofing materials (like vinyl or PVC), Naturepedic uses a material derived from sugarcane and a layer of 100% organic cotton to make their comfy and easily cleanable changing pad.

Skin & Bathtime

• Weleda Calendula Diaper Cream – Our pediatrician recommended this and we’ve never strayed. It clears diaper rash up quickly while protecting baby’s delicate skin barrier.

• Organic Jojoba Oil – We are never without jojoba oil near the bath, on the changing table, and in our travel bags (the mini size). Jojoba oil is deeply hydrating without greasiness and protects sensitive baby skin from drying out in the bath when applied beforehand. It’s also great for eczema, sunburns, and anti-aging for the whole family! (Note: Make sure whichever one you buy is 100% jojoba oil because some brands will mix in other oils.)

• Cave Baby Cream Tallow – Lilia has very sensitive skin that easily dries out, and this gentle, all-natural tallow has been a game-changer. Any time she has a rash or dryness, this clears it right up.

• Badger Baby Mineral Sunscreen – This zinc-based sunscreen has some of the cleanest ingredients we’ve found. It stays on in the water and provides great protection from the sun when needed.

• Earth Mama Baby Wash – Unlike many other baby washes, Earth Mama is free from synthetic fragrance and harsh chemicals that break down baby’s skin barrier, instead using organic herbs and oils. We typically use the unscented version, but like the lavender too.

• Mushie or Parachute Home organic cotton hooded towels – We use these every night to make a baby burrito after bath time! Parachute also makes a toddler size (with cute little ears on the hood), which is a perfect upgrade when the time comes.

• Organic cotton washcloths – We love the organic cotton bath mitt from Mushie for younger/smaller babies and the organic baby washcloth from Parachute as the baby gets older.

• Canopy bath filter – I recommend this bath water filter to anyone who will listen – adults and babies alike. If your house doesn’t have a built-in filtration system, this filter reduces chlorine and irritants, making water gentler on skin. I credit this filter, along with the tallow above, with getting rid of Lilia’s baby eczema.

Sleep

• Woolino sleep sacks – Made with Merino wool and organic cotton, these sleep sacks help regulate babies’ temperature year-round while keeping them cozy. They’re a little pricey, but one size fits 2 months to 2 years, so it’s worth it! We love the stripes.

• Avocado or Naturepedic crib mattress – Babies spend much of their time sleeping (at least, at first), so it’s crucial that their mattress is made from nontoxic materials and free of chemicals that they can breathe or soak in while sleeping. Avocado’s mattress is great because it has dual firmness – one side for babies and another for toddlers – while Naturepedic offers a breathable option that provides peace of mind to first-time parents.

• Snuggle Me Infant Lounger – We used this every day for the first several months of Lilia’s life. It’s made of organic cotton and a cozy way to keep baby in place while feeling snug and secure. They’re discontinuing this version soon, so get it while you can!

She’s obsessed, and it just landed at Sephora. We would try the GreenFlash LED Gel Nail Polish Set to get started, which includes a base coat, two nail colors, a top coat, an LED lamp, acetone-free remover, and removal clips for $85. We also love this raspberry color for the lightest brush of natural pink.

The reality is that healthy eating starts with cooking. We put so much effort into sourcing high-quality, organic ingredients, so it’s just as critical to prepare and cook food using non-toxic tools. After all, what’s the point of buying organic produce or high-quality meat only to cook it in a toxic pan?

We try to keep it simple. Your kitchen should work for you. While it’s tempting to buy every new gadget, you really don’t need that much if you buy high quality products made with non-toxic materials! We avoid Teflon and other non-stick coatings, which release toxic fumes and leach chemicals into food. We also steer clear of aluminum and most metals (except stainless steel and cast iron) because they can contribute to heavy metal toxicity, which is linked to nervous system and brain issues.

It might seem obvious, but microplastics, when ingested, can cause oxidative stress, DNA damage, and even alter gene expression. While plastic is hard to avoid in everyday life, there are simple swaps you can make at home to significantly reduce your exposure.

After years of transitioning our kitchens to non-toxic spaces, we’re sharing our tried-and-true essentials: workhorse tools, appliances, and prep items we love and use daily!

Essentials

• Caraway Baking Sheets – These are our favorite ceramic-coated bakeware. Start with the baking sheet trio.

• Caraway Sauté Pans & Pots – In our experience, Caraway makes the best non-toxic cookware that lasts the longest. While we love Our Place’s titanium pan below, nothing lasts as long as the cookware set from Caraway. Their frying pan is a great first purchase to test out the brand.

• Our Place Titanium Always Pan – We were early lovers of Our Place, but have found that the titanium version of their cult-favorite pan has a much longer life-span. The full titanium set with the gold hardware is next on Isabella’s wishlist.

• Glass Mixing Bowls – Plain glass mixing bowls are so underrated. This set is great.

• Wood or Bamboo Cutting Boards – Look for untreated, chemical-free wood or bamboo, so nothing gross gets into your food while you’re chopping away. We like the ones from Caraway for an investment, but you can find lots of less expensive options like these and these on Amazon. (Fun fact: Bamboo cutting boards also resist bacteria better than other cutting board materials!)

• Wooden Spoons – Wooden spoons aren’t only better for your health, they keep your food tasting pure and fresh. We buy these and soak them monthly in hot water and salt to make sure they remain extra clean! These bamboo ones are also great.

• Silicon Spatulas – While there’s some debate around silicone, we avoid using it for baking or high-heat cooking. That said, silicone spatulas are a better choice than plastic for everyday prep. This is a great set, and so is this!

• Caraway glass storage – Isabella featured these in her September favorites, and they really are great. They’re well-designed, come in multiple sizes, and the glass material makes them safe and easy to use in the dishwasher.

Appliances

• Alessi Stainless Steel Tea Kettle – Food-grade stainless steel is one of the safest alternatives to plastic, especially in high-heat products like kettles. Alessi makes beautifully designed options that are non-toxic and super chic on your stovetop.

• Cuzen Matcha Maker – If you know or follow us, you know how much we love our Cuzen matcha machines. Their organic leaves create the most pure, delicious matcha we’ve ever tried (and we have tried it all!). This is the best purchase or gift for a true matcha lover.

Everything else!

• Bink Water Bottle – Our tried and true favorite glass water bottle. We carry our 27 oz bottles with the straw attachment everywhere. Manifesting an Iris collab!!

• Good Cuppa Glass Coffee Cup – We found these through an Instagram ad and honestly love them, 100% glass and available in super cute colors.

• Etsy Ceramic Coffee Cups – These ceramic cups from Etsy are adorable and functional. We love the stripe, the floral and multi floral, and the blueberries!!

• Glass Straws – Glass straws are imperative, and there are so many cute ones! We love these and these for a colorful option, these are great clear ones, and these are fun for a little whimsy.

• Organic Cotton Kitchen Towels – These are actually hard to find! We love these non-bleached flour sack towels and these in a classic stripe – and the price is great!

• Chemical Free Wrap – If You Care makes the best non-toxic, non-stick parchment and wax paper. We also love their baking cups!

• Silicone Baking Mat – Natalie’s cookie-making savior (maybe she’ll share recipes next…) made with food-grade silicone and cotton.

The kitchen is such an important space to make intentional swaps toward non-toxic products, but it doesn’t have to be daunting or overwhelming – and it definitely doesn’t all have to happen overnight. It’s easy to make switches over time, replacing items with cleaner options as you refresh or re-buy!

That’s why non-toxic cleaning products are so important – and why we gravitate toward safer alternatives to help keep our homes and environments as healthy as possible!

This is a list of what we use in our own homes everyday! We’ve done the hard work for you and tried a lot of options. All of the brands and products we recommend are first and foremost effective (they actually work!), while also being natural and non-toxic – making these switches non-intimidating and easier than ever!

Cleaning Products

Over the past few years, we’ve become extra mindful about what we use to clean our homes. We now avoid harsh chemicals like bleach and keep a close eye on the ingredients in our household staples. After trying dozens of non-toxic products, we’ve found the ones that truly keep our home safe and clean.

Our shift toward cleaner living started years ago, as we became more intentional about reducing our toxic load, and that focus only deepened when Natalie started having kids. These natural and eco-friendly cleaning brands are conscious of your family’s health in your most sacred space: your home!

• Branch Basics – Their extremely effective products are our #1 go-to for all things home cleaning because everything in our homes feels truly clean after using them. We love buying directly because they offer starter kits to sample bundles of products for a great price, but they are now available at Target and Walmart, which makes them even easier to weave into your routine! We recommend starting with their Ultimate Starter Kit or Premium Starter Kit, which include their plant- and mineral-based cleaning sprays and laundry detergent. Don’t skip the Oxygen Boost – it’s our favorite for naturally brightening laundry!

• Koala Eco – These multipurpose cleaners are another staple in our home. We especially love the formulations for the kitchen, bathroom, and floors. Their scents are light, fresh, and made with essential oils – no synthetic fragrances allowed!

• Bon Ami Powder Cleanser – A classic, natural choice for scrubbing sinks, tubs, and bathroom surfaces without scratching. This is really a game changer for baked on food/grime and hard-to-scrub situations!

• Undyed Sponges – Look for sponges made from natural, biodegradable materials like cellulose, loofah, hemp, or coconut fiber. They’re effective, compostable, and free from synthetic dyes or plastics. We love the Coconut Scrubber Sponges and Walnut Scrubber Sponges, and heavier duty Agave Scrubber Sponges from Grove.

• Rosey All Purpose Cleaning Wipes – These are perfect for quick wipe-downs when you don’t have time to spray and scrub. They’re gentle on your hands and home but still tough on messes, and are perfect when kids want to help with cleaning! We have found them to be the best switch for Clorox or Windex wipes and are great to stash under the sink or in the car.

• Biom Wipes & Re-fillable Dispenser – These are the best eco-friendly wipes in the chicest dispenser! Traditional wipes can be a nightmare for the environment (if you’ve heard of fatbergs… you know), but Biom wipes are biodegradable, plastic-free, and made with clean ingredients. Plus, their refillable packaging is beautiful enough to leave on your counter. They now make a travel size too!

• Cotton Cloths – Switch out paper towels for reusable cotton cloths when you can! They’re a simple swap that makes a big impact. We love these and these from Marley’s Monsters. If you really love paper towels, look for unbleached options like these or these.

• Hot Water Mops with Cotton or Organic Cellulose Pad – We love a hot water mop for a deep, chemical-free clean. Just wet and heat a reusable cotton pad to sanitize floors while keeping things safe for babies, pets, and bare feet. Look for washable cotton mop heads for an even more sustainable setup. We love this cotton mop and this cellulose mop head (which basically acts as a big sponge!)

• Baking soda and vinegar – The OGs of natural cleaning! Baking soda and vinegar are pantry staples that double as powerful, non-toxic cleaners. Use baking soda to scrub sinks and deodorize carpets, and vinegar to cut grease and dissolve buildup. When combined, they fizz up into a natural powerhouse that’s especially great for unclogging drains or freshening up your dishwasher. This combo kills mold too!

Laundry

• Branch Basics Detergent and Oxygen Boost Brightener – We really do love this brand!! Branch Basics’ laundry powder is our go-to for fresh, clean clothes. It lifts stains, protects fabrics, and skips all the usual chemicals of concern. Their Oxygen Boost brightening powder is hands-down the best bleach alternative we’ve found, keeping our clothes, sheets, and towels looking brand new!

• Wool Dryer Balls – An easy swap that makes a big difference: replace conventional dryer sheets with natural wool dryer balls. They soften fabrics, cut down on static and wrinkles, and help clothes dry faster, all without synthetic fragrance or coating your laundry in questionable chemicals. Add a drop of essential oil for a light, natural scent if you’d like.

• Molly Suds Washing Machine Cleaner – We hadn’t thought of this until we really needed it, but washing machines need to be cleaned too! These naturally-scented, clean-ingredient tablets help remove buildup and odors to keep your clothes fresh and your washer running smoothly.

Kitchen

We are going to do a full separate post on all kitchen and cooking essentials, but wanted to include the cleaning products we use in our kitchens everyday!

• Dish Soap – Dish Soap has been a hard switch for us because it’s imperative that our pots and pans get super clean, but at the same time, they can’t be covered in even grosser chemicals that end up in our food! We love the ones from Koala and Blueland (Blueland is a powder, which is interesting, but it works very well!)

• Dishwasher Tablets – Unlike conventional options, Branch Basics’ dishwasher tablets are free from preservatives and microplastics, which means no invisible film left behind on your plates and glasses.

Bathroom

Conventional toilet paper is full of chlorine, formaldehydes, inks, and dyes, all absorbing into your most sensitive areas! Using toilet paper free of harsh chemicals protects your hormones and your health and is even more crucial if you have kids!

We love the luxurious bamboo from the Skinny Confidential (and love that Lauryn is bringing this important topic to the mainstream!), as well as Plant Paper.

Pet Messes!

Only Natural Dog Stain & Odor Remover – Having a pet is one of the best things ever, but comes with its own cleaning challenges! This plant-based spray tackles everyday pet messes (and accidents) with natural cleaning power, and the subtle mandarin and green tea scent keeps things smelling fresh. Non-toxic, effective, and made with ingredients you can feel good about using around your animals (and humans).

Toothpaste

We want toothpaste that meets dentist standards and keeps our mouths feeling clean and teeth white without the toxic chemicals found in traditional formulas (especially so close to our brains!). Our picks skip ingredients like SLS, triclosan, and artificial sweeteners, which can irritate gums, disrupt hormones, and affect long-term health. We also avoid fluoride and instead look for gentle, yet effective, ingredients like baking soda, coconut oil, essential oils, plant extracts, hydroxyapatite, activated charcoal, and calcium carbonate to naturally clean, whiten, and strengthen teeth!

• RiseWell Mineral Toothpaste – Uses nano hydroxyapatite, a non-toxic mineral, as an alternative to fluoride that strengthens enamel and prevents cavities.

• Davids Whitening + Antiplaque Toothpaste – We love David’s natural peppermint toothpaste, made with baking soda and xylitol.

• Essential Oxygen Organic Toothpaste – This USDA organic brand has the most amazing ingredients, but also gets your teeth clean using hydrogen peroxide, organic coconut oil, organic aloe-vera, and organic frankincense oil. We were amazed at how well it works.

• Dr Bronner’s All-One Toothpaste – Dr Bonner’s is the OG organic personal care brand, with all certifications to show. We especially like their peppermint flavor.

More Teeth!

• Luminex Whitening Strips – We love having white teeth, but don’t love the chemicals in traditional whitening products. Luminex avoids the harsh chemicals and is safe for the microbiome, yet our teeth have never been whiter. These are a must!

• Olas Marine Bio Mouth Wash – Isabella has been using this mouth rinse for over five years after originally discovering it at Goop in London. It’s made of natural bio-active ingredients, simultaneously preventing plaque and reducing oral inflammation, but also strengthening the immune system.

• Toothbrush – Toothbrushes are hard because they are so personal, and really come down to preference. This is one category where truthfully the more non-toxic wooden versions just don’t work as well. We love Italian and Swiss toothbrushes because they are made in Europe with less chemicals. Spazzolificio Piave is our top pick and it looks beautiful in your bathroom!

• COCO Floss – made with coconut oil and natural wax, COCO floss is just as effective as any traditional floss option and avoids chemicals of concern and PFAs! RiseWell also makes a good one.

• Copper Tongue Scrapper – A game changer for mouth health and breath! 100% copper is the way to go for ridding your mouth of bacteria.

Deodorant

Switching to clean deodorant can feel daunting—and let’s be honest, no one wants to deal with a smelly detox period. But trust us, it’s worth it. Conventional deodorants often contain aluminum and other chemicals of concern that disrupt your endocrine system. We’ve tested all the natural options to find the ones that actually work—keeping you smelling fresh AND protected with pure, safe ingredients.

• Agent Natuer Holi (stick) Deodorant – Our favorite clean deodorant, hands down. It lasts all day and is beautifully scented without using synthetic fragrance. They just reformulated and repackaged with new scents, and we are hooked. Isabella alternates between Taré Tropézienne and Cap d’Antibes.

• Native Deodorant – The best clean option you can find at your local drugstore or Target. Aluminum-free, paraben-free, and phthalate-free, with scents like Eucalyptus & Mint and Vanilla & Sandalwood. We've converted all the men in our lives to this one.

• Bonus pick: Natalie’s husband uses Salt & Stone and swears by it (and as a former athlete, he’s very picky about deodorant and making sure it works).

Period Care

Switching to organic cotton period care might be one of the most important choices you can make for your health. Conventional tampons and pads often contain a troubling mix of toxic chemicals – like dioxins, chlorine, bleach, synthetic fibers, dyes, and fragrances – that come into contact with your most sensitive and absorbent tissues. Research has shown that 100% of tested conventional products contained heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, and arsenic, which are all linked to serious health risks like infertility, hormonal disruption, cancer, and even dementia.   • Weleda Skin Food – With ingredients like beeswax and chamomile, this cult classic (first launched in 1926) is ultra-thick—too heavy for our face but incredible on hands. Just a few days of use and dry skin is renewed, especially in winter. Victoria Beckham even calls it her “body secret.”

  • Earth Mama Baby Face – A clean, non-toxic alternative to petroleum-based balms like Aquaphor, this certified organic, cruelty-free formula skips petrolatum, parabens, and artificial fragrances. Originally for babies, it works for the whole family, relieving everything from eczema to cracked knuckles with soothing herbs like calendula and coconut oil. Soft, ointment-like texture spreads easily without being greasy.

  • Badger Balm for Hardworking Hands – Created by a carpenter for cracked hands, this ultra-pure, concentrated salve uses just five organic ingredients: olive oil, beeswax, castor oil, aloe, and wintergreen. It’s gentle enough for babies, effective for rough skin, and the tin lasts forever.

Hair care has been one of the trickiest categories for us to fully transition. When we first began swapping conventional products for non-toxic alternatives, we struggled because most “clean” options didn’t work as well. Our hair wasn’t getting as clean, styles weren’t holding as long as we wanted, and it just didn’t feel the same. But in recent years, things have changed in a big way. Brands like Crown Affair, Roz, Briogeo, and Dae have raised the bar with beautifully branded, non-toxic products that actually work.

Founder Dianna Cohen has created something truly special: high-performing formulas, beautiful packaging, and a brand ethos we admire deeply. (We also love her Substack, Take Your Time!) These are non-toxic, ultra hydrating, and smell amazing.

  Pro Tip: Use the Crown Affair Cleansing Scrub in place of shampoo once a week for a deep cleanse that removes buildup.

• RŌZ Foundation Shampoo & Conditioner – Another favorite that actually works, created by celebrity hairstylist Mara Roszak. The natural Neroli + Fig scent is delicious and the chic aluminum packaging makes refills easy and sustainable.

Masks

• Crown Affair The Renewal Hydrating Mask – Another Crown Affair favorite, this is our go-to weekly deep conditioner. Leave it on for at least 10 minutes, or try Isabella’s trick: use it to slick your hair into a bun and head to a workout (her favorite is Silver Springs). Then, your hair will be impossibly soft and shiny post-shower.

• Briogeo Deep Conditioning Hair Mask – This OG clean haircare line is still one of our staples. Protein-rich and clinically shown to strengthen hair 2x after use, we often sleep in this overnight when our hair needs serious TLC. It’s especially amazing for color-treated, heat-styled, chemically straightened, or breakage-prone hair.

Post Shower Oils & Treatments

• Roz Root Lift Volumizing Hair Styling Spray – Apply this game-changing product to roots before blow-drying for volume that feels like it was styled at a salon.

• Crown Affair Texturizing Air Dry Mousse – The holy grail for natural texture, this product defines soft, air-dried waves without crunch. Natalie has embraced her natural waves because of this product. We’re obsessed.

Dry Hair Oils & Treatments

Slick Back!

• Crown Affair Flexible Hold Finishing Hair Gel – Recommended last year by our good friend, it is the best gel we’ve found for sleek buns or ponytails. It provides great hold without flaking or stiffness.

• Dae Taming Wand – Like a mascara wand for your hair, it is perfect for smoothing flyaways on-the-go.

Accessories

• Brushes – We swear by Mason Pearson brushes – the normal size and the pocket size (we always have one in our purse!) The boar bristle brushes are handcrafted in the UK and made with the same techniques and patents used since the brand's inception in 1885. They’re pricey, but truly last a lifetime. Isabella still uses hers from childhood, and it’s in perfect shape. Great for slick-backs and daily brushing.

Outside of our tried and true Mason Pearson, we look for wood handles and natural boar bristles to reduce toxins completely. Bur Bur makes a beautiful one.

• Clips – Our current obsession is UNDO clips. We love the No.4 to hold all of our hair and No.5 for half-ups! They come in gorgeous colors (like Iris Espresso and the perfect fall burgundy) and are super durable.

• Silk Scrunchies – A must for hair health. We stock up at Zitomer in NYC, but also love the ones from Crown Affair, Slip, and Clementine Sleep (for an XL organic silk option).

• Silk Pillowcases – Sleeping on silk has benefits for both hair and skin. Look for 100% mulberry silk.

Transitioning to non-toxic hair care has definitely been a journey for us, filled with trial, error, and a lot of learning. But over time, we’ve found products we truly love and trust, and our hair has honestly never felt better. • ColorScience Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield - SPF 50 – We already included this in our Non-Toxic Makeup Favorites, but we would be remiss if we didn’t mention it again here. It is tinted, lightweight, and protective without clogging pores.

Our favorite tip: Using Clean Skin Club undyed single use bamboo towels instead of our bathroom towels has changed the game for us for preventing breakouts! They’re soft, hygienic, and a small switch that makes a big impact.

We pull tons of inspiration from these brands as we build the Iris universe – where products come first; materials are intentional; and our entire focus is on being Protective, Pretty, and Pure.

Here’s a peek inside our beauty drawers – a rundown of the tried-and-true products we reach for daily and replenish on repeat!

SKIN

• Haus Labs Hydrating Concealer – This is our desert island product. If we could only use one thing to do our makeup every day, it would be this.

• ColorScience Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield - SPF 50 – This lightweight sunscreen gives you the perfect tint and smooth finish. It’s super hydrating and feels like nothing on the skin, but the SPF 50 makes it protective for everyday. Protective, Pretty, and Pure (our favorite combo)!

• Summer Friday’s Skin Tint – This is Isabella’s everyday skin tint. It offers super light coverage but smooths out skin beautifully with hyaluronic acid. It never feels like you’re wearing makeup, but gives you that fresh, awake look!

• Haus Labs Foundation – This is the BEST foundation ever. It’s bouncy, light, and blends into skin flawlessly. We love it for weddings, nights out, or any moment we want to feel more made-up. Once we started using it, we never looked back. It’s perfect.

• Saie Glowy Super Gel – The best lightweight highlighter we’ve ever tried. Rub it on the tops of your cheeks over a full face of makeup or wear it alone with a bit of concealer for an easy everyday look. We love the Roseglow, but have been wearing Sunglow this summer for a little extra tan.

BLUSH & BRONZER

• Merit Flush Balm Cream Blush: We LOVE this blush. It’s the creamiest, easiest-to-apply color that’s basically foolproof. They drop new seasonal shades often, and we’re always running to Sephora to try them. Just swipe it on your cheeks and blend with Merit’s Brush No.1. Isabella’s current fave: Post Modern – a deep pinky-brown, perfect for late summer.

• Saie Dew Blush – These liquid blushes are super easy to apply and come in the best colors. Spicy and Sweetie have been Natalie’s summer go-tos, but she wears Flirty when she wants an extra pop!

• Saie Dew Bronze – We love this buildable bronzer for an all-over glow and just the right amount of sunkissed color.

• Westman Blush & Bronzer Duo – This powder duo stands strong on bare skin or layers beautifully over liquid formulas, and the pink lacquer packaging is a dream.

LASHES & BROWS

• Westman Atelier Mascara – Hands down the BEST clean mascara on the market. No flaking, no smudging, and the packaging looks gorgeous on your vanity. We love the classic black and the brown for a softer look. Westman products also make amazing gifts because they’re so beautiful.

• Rye Beauty Eyebrow Gel – Natalie first discovered this brow serum at Michele Holmes Studio in Marin (go see Maddi for the best brows!) and we’ve been obsessed ever since. It is lightweight, dries clear (never flaky!), and is packed with ingredients that support hair growth.

• Merit 1990 Sheer Gel Eyebrow Pencil – The fine tip allows for filling in little spots without making brows look too thick or unnatural. This has become Natalie’s second desert island product, but be warned that it runs out quickly!

LIPS

• Dr Macrene Actives Tinted Lip Filler – Created by a dermatologist, this lip gloss is made with organic plants, hyaluronic acids, and peptides. It’s the only lip plumper we like – everything else is way too sticky.

• Bonus lip favorites – Goop Beauty Gloss (seriously, in every color) and Augustinus Bader Tinted Balm (we’re especially loving the new Sofia Coppola color!)

BRUSHES

• The best brushes come from Saie and Merit. They last forever and clean easily! We use the Saie Big Buffing Brush, Double- Ended Sculpting Brush, and Fluffy Brush, as well as the Merit Brush No.1 Blending Brush every single day.
